Pre-departure Seminar

Our agency was holding a pre-departure seminar yesterday, so we went along to see what it was all about. Essentially, it was a chance to speak with some recommended firms who specialise in things like financial planning, overseas shipping, and so on. The main thrust of the seminar, though, was to mingle with other people

An update

Had a few emails form people looking for a progress update. There haven’t been any new posts made for a while because, well, there’s nothing to say. The sad fact about migration to Australia is that there are a few very brief bursts of absolutely frenzied activity and stress seperated with several extremely long periods

More delays

According to Adelaide Skilled Processing Center, we have another 6 or 7 weeks before a case officer is allocated. Guh. That’s a while. Absolutely nothing we can do about it, though. Here’s hope they don’t move the goalposts again within that time.

Crates and Boxes

We’re still in the throes of attempting to clear out some of the rubbish we have. As part of the process, I’ve ordered a pile of really useful boxes from, er, reallyusefulboxes.com . As you might expect, they’re boxes and they’re really useful. Ordered a few dirty great big ones for the copious quantities of

Poverty

Well, some progress at last. The assurance of support bond was wired to Australia today, so our bank account is several thousand pounds  lighter, but it’s one more milestone passed. Things are looking good on the house front. We really just have the medicals to pay for and that’s us. Here’s hoping for some feedback

Houses

Well, another few days on. Our house sale is looming – 7th April is the entry date. While we have no real cause to be concerned, we’re a *teensy* bit worried about everything going according to plan because it’s not a normal sale. We’re trying our best not to worry about things but, as the

Well, it’s not so bad.

Had some further clarification from our agent and the delay isn’t as bad as it first looked. Rather than being an additional 4-5 months processing, all that’s changed is the initial queue before a case officer is allocated. So rather than waiting 1-4 months after lodgement for a case officer to be allocated, it’s 4-5

Delays

We received an email from our agent last night. Our visa subclass (138 Skilled Australian Sponsored) has been given lower priority by the Adelaide processing centre. At present, they’re processing July-September 2005 but expect to be doing preliminary assessments on post September lodgements (i.e. us) soon. I’ve no idea what this means in terms of

All is quiet

Nothing in the way of anything happening at the moment. Still waiting. We have the sale date of our house fast approaching, though, so there’s been lots of reorganisation getting done. I think we need to get a removals firm in to assess the volume of the stuff we’re taking because I’m having problems getting
