Ghost Hunter (PS2)
“Hang on,” thought I, wallowing in my Post RE4 ennui, “Ghost Hunter is a bit like RE4.” Third person. Check. Over the shoulder shooting. Check. First person view. Check. Sniping. Check. Scary. Check. Pretty….. ah. It’s on the PS2 – it can’t possibly be pretty. Still, it’s a while since I’ve looked at it so I’ll give it a go.
Hang on. It’s fecking gorgeous. Not only that, but it puts a lot of xbox and cube games to shame. The environments are lovely, everything is beautifully rendered, there’s some ace lighting effects and light blooming, and the whole thing clips along at a tidy 60fps in 16:9 mode. Not only that, but the game mechanic is really nice as well.
I seem to remember, way back in the mists of time, that Debbie bought this for my christmas when it came out (2003?). Why on earth didn’t I finish it?
Anyway – I’ve tramped through a scary deserted school and gubbed a big thing with a hammer. I have a nifty boomerangy thing which I can chuck at ghosts to sook them up ghostbusters style, as well. Oh – and I can astrally project – always a handy skill. I’m now in a ghost town surrounded by ghostly rednecks and a partially invisible chainsaw wielding crocodile-man. Indeed.
It’s not RE4, but it’s filling the gap quite nicely thankyouverymuch. This’ll do me for the next week or two 🙂
