Castlevania – Harmony of Dissonance (GBA)

Harmony of Dissonance CoverSo, as you do, I was continuing my quest to find somewhere I could slither under with my new-found lizards tail powered slithery moves. I visited all the likely looking terminating points of the maze and succeeded in picking up a few bits and bobs without actually opening any new areas.

Then I got to the amazing psychedelic “plasma” backgrounded area and found another likely candidate for shoobrying under and lo and behold the first teleport room! So – a bit of exploration later and there’s a convenient save point – just as well because my health was pretty low by this point and potions seem few and far between. Now if only there was a shop nearby where I could spend all the coins I’ve been picking up…..

  • Ah! But there *is* a shop nearby!

Incidently, how are you finding this compared to COTM? I didn’t like it anywhere near as much for the first half of the game, but once you get some power-ups and shortcuts open making the map easier to traverse, it all suddenly improves. Not *quite* up there with COTM or DOS, but closer than I expected.

I completed HOD a few hours ago and have started AOS already. Hurrah!

  • I’m ashamed to say, I haven’t yet played COTM – it’s on my list, though, and I’ve spotted it on Amazon for a tenner. Compared to SCIV, DoS and the PS2 one (the name of which escapes me), though, it does initially seem a little slow and limited. The room design doesn’t seem to be consistent, with a few locations designed to be deliberately annoying rather than challenging. However, it’s early days and the basic Castlevania mechanic is there, so that earns an immediate 8/10 anyway 🙂

  • I had exactly the same thoughts about some of the rooms (see http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/diary/2007/02/castlevania-harmony-of-dissonance-gba.php ). Later on there are even crate puzzles 🙁 At least they’re easy…
