Our new back garden.

Almond Valley 1 A bit pretty, isn’t it? This is a two minute walk from where we live. It’s impossible to describe how good it is to be able to just wander off and sit on the grass in the quiet – particularly as we’re living in a fairly built up area.

The thing I particularly like is that the area is well used by the community. At any given time there are people sitting fishing, people walking dogs, running, all kinds of stuff. It’s a lovely place to walk – there are standing stones, benches, riverside walks, and you can hike for miles without ever having to cross a road. Almond Valley 2 It’s easy to get used to a lifestyle where people sit in front of the TV and never venture out into the “big blue room”, so actually bumping into people who are out enjoying the fresh air is very nice.

There’s also plenty of places where paddling can be done without fear of anything nasty scooting up your trouser leg. It’s a great Scottish tradition, paddling is.
