Magical Starsign (DS)
This one has been sitting taunting me from my game case for months. So, a pre-FFIII break from Castlevania is required, and a light-hearted RPG is just what the doctor ordered. I’m actually very pleasantly surprised at how much fun this one is – it’s pretty lightweight as RPGs go – imagine Mario and Luigi 2 without all the tedious damage-thwarting minigames and you’re pretty much there. A very similar looks and feel and some totally mental dialogue. It’s also incredibly cute – one of the playable characters is even a floppy eared bunny (who is immensely stupid and has all the best lines).
Anyway, I ended up – for some random reason – on the planet Erd and was befriended by the Spiny Moles who believe my little party are the heroes of legends, prophesied (is that even a word?) to lead them to a wormy paradise. Which I did? Between bouts of sniggering at the dialogue (although nothing has yet come close to the l33+ sp34k1ng h4XX0r d00dz in Mario and Luigi – yet) and outright laughing at the bizarre plot twists, I managed to do just this. So I’m off to a big tower now to purloin another spaceship (I crashed the first two) to head off to the Wind Planet to rescue my teacher. Or something. The good news, though, is that none of the characters appear to be orphans – unheard of in a JRPG.
Trouble is, the tower is full of nasty robots who say encouraging things like “Intruder detected! Begin Reformatting Intruders Face Protocol!”
