Castlevania – Circle of the Moon (GBA)

Circle of the Moon coverLook, I had no choice, alright? One thing about Circle of the Moon – it’s a bit hard! First boss killed me a couple of times before I realised that the correct strategy is to squeal like a girl and run away from all its attacks, only pausing to whipporise it when a clear opportunity presents itself. Boss dead, double-jump GET!

The controls are wierd. Horizontally, it’s like walking through treacle (unless the double-tap left/right run move it made) and gravity wise, well, I think the game is set on Jupiter. That said, the double-jump ability makes a fair difference. So, I’ve explored a fair bit of the map, and now have a second boss to face – who has two forms. Oh no! I’m suffering heavily from lack of shopitis – potions are extremely scarce. I think that’s probably what made t’other CV games so easy.

Graphically, you can tell it was designed for the “dark as the pit of doom” display of the original GBA – a lot of the colours and textures look quite washed out on my “brighter than the fires of the sun” DS Lite.

Overall though – ACEBEST wrapped in HARDNESS.
