Bah – DHL
Earlier in the week I ordered a new 120Gb 2.5cm hard drive from PC World, against my better judgement. They were cheaper than everyone else and it was a pretty good deal. Anyway, three days later it’s finally shipped and I’ve discovered to my horror that it’s coming by DHL who must be the most half-arsed courier company on the planet. Here’s hoping they don’t lose it / drop it / send it into space.
The good news, though, is that it’s to simultaneously replace the low capacity (and s l o w ) drive in my Ubuntu laptop and make obsolete my aging external firewire drive. The firewire drive is a bit of a cause for concern at the moment, because it contains more data than can feasibly be backed up and is showing signs of imminent demise. It should be able to hang in there long enough to get everything copied off, but we’ll see.
I’ve been running Ubuntu Feisty day-to-day at work for a couple of weeks now and I’m debating where to install Flight 4 on the new drive or play it safe and stick with Edgy for the time being. I’ve had no problems with Feisty at all, and I’m running on some pretty unusual hardware with random bits of high-load software (Zabbix agents and server, Acronis backup agents, etc) and it’s handled it all fine…… Not sure I trust it with my music collection though.
