Castlevania – Harmony of Dissonance (GBA)

Harmony of Dissonance CoverWell, I found the shop but it wasn’t where I expected it to be. As well as a pile of potions, I also bought part two of the castle map so I have a fair few new places to visit. I also found the joy of the “Quick Save” feature which allows you to save the game at any point. Fair enough, it restarts you from the nearest save room rather than where you left off, but records your progress: when you’re as obsessive as I am about getting the map coloured in blue, you appreciate these small touches.

Skeleton Blazes in Harmony of DissonanceWhat I don’t appreciate, however, are the skeleton blaze baddies that leap about like demented weight-challenged ninjas. If the happen to land ON you, then it’s byebye to half of your health before you can shake the cretins off. Armed with the fire book, though, I’ve found the above method is a handy (but mana-expensive) way of getting rid of the blighters.

  • The Quick Save function is the main (only?) improvement over CotM, I found, and I’m really missing it in AoS.

You really need to see the joys of the Wind Book and Crucifix combo though. It barely touches your mana either.
