Migration Costs
I thought I’d put this post together to give people who are thinking of moving from the UK to Australia the kind of costs they can expect to face.
The costs are split into three sections. Direct migration costs are fees and charges payable directly to various bodies in Australia and are payable whether you use an agent or not. Indirect migration costs cover the costs of hiring a migration agent, organising passports, sorting out medicals, etc. Miscellaneous costs cover things like shipping things over, plane tickets, and so on.
These figures are what we personally have paid and most will vary from person to person, depending on how straightforward an application it is, how many people are going, etc. They’re just provided as a guide, really.
Before launching into the figures, though, once you see what’s actually been handed over in the process of this you’ll maybe understand why we laugh when people say “so are you really going then?”
Direct Migration Costs
o Application Lodgement Fee, £800
o Skills Assessment Fee, £200
o Police Check, £20
o Medicals for a family of five, £580
o Assurance of Support Bond, £2,200
Indirect Migration Costs
o Hiring of Migration Agent , £1,800
o Skills Assessment Consultancy, £600
Miscellaneous
o Removal of person effects, excluding furniture, from UK to Oz, £1,100
o Passports for five, £300
o Birth and Marriage Certificates, £140
o Flights for two adults and three children, off peak, £2,000
So, whenever anyone says “Are you really planning to go?” we should probably reply, “No, we just had a spare NINE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FORTY pounds going spare and didn’t know what to do with it.”
