Mad panic!
Well, now that things are clipping along apace with Adelaide, we were expecting things to get a bit busy. What we didn’t expect, though, is our house buyer to pop up and confirm that he is signing missives tomorrow after all, leaving us a grand total of nine days to find somewhere else to live.
The original plan was to go on holiday for a month, but then we expected to have been granted the visa by this point. There’s also the small matter of working out notice with my employer. Not ideal, to say the least.
Sure, it’d be nice to go on holiday for a while, but my concern is that for every week we’re in holiday accomodation, we’ll be haemorraging cash and we need to keep as much as possible free for setting up in Oz.
I think this is the stage where people go around and visit friends and family before they go – while most people have their visa by this point, we’re in the position that if it’s not Australia it’ll be somewhere else. I guess we could work out an itinery of visits to take place over a month or so, but we don’t want to go too far from (a) a net connection and (b) the post office our mail will be held at. On top of that there’s the whole notice period thing.
So, in a nutshell, AAARGH! I think the ideal solution would be to find a relatively local short-term lease – it’s the best all round solution under the circumstances.
