Final Fantasy IV (GBA)
Well, it was only a matter of time. This is one for the bus. It was odd though – starting it up and being faced with the white title screen and that arpeggio playing in the background, knowing I had upwards of 200 hours of joy waiting for me really sent a shiver down my back.
Anyway, only two hours in but it doesn’t waste any time kicking in with the emotions – I’m now in charge of a little summoner girl who has been orphaned as a direct result of my character’s actions.
IV is the first of the GBA games to use the Active Time battle system, which can make things a little more frantic. It’s good to have on during random encounters but really does need to be switched off for more tactical boss fights.
Anyway, I’m off looking for a crystal – who’d have thought, eh? – to cure someone, so I’m rummaging around in watery caves with the aforementioned summoner and an old sage. Oh – and I’m a Dark Knight. Called Cedric.
