Barrow Hill (PC)

Barrow Hill Box ArtNow this is just lovely. It’s titles like this, appearing completely out of the blue, that restore faith in the games industry. And it’s British to boot 🙂

It’s essentially a point and click adventure from the first person, done Myst stylee, but with a very heavy focus on atmospherics. I’ve only played for forty five minutes or so, but I’m wigged out already.

There’s a pretty heavy blend of Cornish mythology (in other words, as close to the real mythology of the British Isles as can realistically be got) and gothic horror – almost Lovecraftian in its allusions and ‘the bad thing left just before you arrived’ scenarios.

So – so far – it’s ACEBEST! Not only that but it’s only 15 quid. So, if you’re a console weeny, liked Silent Hill, and want a break from the tedium of first person shooters, pop along to the website and at the very least try out the demo. Given that this is home grown software at its very best, you could even part with some hard currency for the full game 🙂

And no, I’m in no way affiliated with them – I just like the game 🙂
