Legend of Zelda – The Ocarina of Time (GameCube)

Zelda Collectors Edition Box ArtRight, well, I’m in the Forest Temple and it’s quite beautiful. It’s a pity the european N64 was saddled with such ropey composite output. OOT on the GameCube benefits from the ‘Cube’s gloriously sharp and vibrant RGB output, and it really makes this particular dungeon shine – loads of rich greens and bright flowers.

Anyhoo, Forest Temple sees the first 3D appearance of our old Zelda friend, the Grabbing Hand of Doom – nasty things which drop on your from a great height. Basically, the shadow appears over link and tracks him. Once the hand starts to drop you have only a second or two to get out of the way and into a position to swipe it.

So, I’ve got myself a nice shiny new map and a couple of keys, and have opened up about half of the dungeon. I’ve gone through the horrible twisted corridor and ended up in a chanber which is, well, not the right way up. There’s a chest on the wall which I can’t quite get to. Methinks the other side of the dungeon may need to be explored first. Fortunately, despite being four levels, it’s not a huge dungeon. Certainly nowhere near some of the monsters in Link to the Past or Minish Cap. Which reminds me – I still haven’t defeated THAT boss in Minish Cap…..
