2005 in games

It’s been a wierd year, but it’s not over yet. My beloved Gamecube has been in a bit of a decline as well, but going out with a bang — Resident Evil 4, the last title I bought for it, was easily the game of the year. I haven’t bought an Xbox or PS2 game in months.

The good news is, I have tons of cube, xbox and ps2 games which have barely been played! Most of my time these days is spent with handhelds – it’s just so much more convenient. I have a daily hour long session at lunchtime in which to indulge my gaming habit and, if I have a go in the evening, it means I don’t have to disrupt the telly.

Still, with the year drawing to a close, I aim to put some closure on a few games I’ve been playing for a while (or not started). So – before the end of the year, the following puppies will be getting my attention:

Castlevania – Dawn of Sorrow (DS). Need to finish this one. I’m not even sure why I stopped. I think Fire Emblem came along.

Fire Emblem – The Sacred Stones (GBA) Restarted this on Medium as easy was a bit….. easy.

RebelStar – Tactical Command (GBA) Again, there was no reason for stopping this other than ‘ohhhh shiny new thing’.

Riviera – The Promised Land(GBA) This is just irritating, but I’m involved enough in the story to keep at it.

Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney (DS) This is great, it just requires a bit more concentration than I can usually muster.

On top of these, I will of course be continuing with Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, and IX. Then there’s Sonic Rush (DS), Mario Kart (DS), Meteos (DS), Pac Pix (DS) gaaaaaaah! The list is endless!

2005 has undoubtedly been the year of the handheld – both through the innovation of the DS and the rediscovery of the GBA via the convenience of the Micro. I have enough fantastic games to keep me busy well into next year, and I haven’t even mentioned the Cube and N64 games I’ve still to look at. Resident Evil Zero is still in the shrink wrap :-/

My overriding goal this year, though, is to be more helpful and supportive of my lovely wife Debbie, who I haven’t appreciated as much as I could have. My evil and cunning plan is to help the living daylights out of her so she’s nothing to do in the evenings except play Meteos with me 🙂
