Fire Emblem – The Sacred Stones (GBA)

Nothing happening on the games front – I finally succumbed to the boaking lurgi that the kids have had for past week, so spend a day and a bit feeling very sorry for myself. I did play Fire Emblem for half an hour or so, which was long enough for me to decide that – due to rushing things – I was hurtling towards the end of the game very underpowered and unprepared and I was manufacturing a hysterical frustration fit for myself. So, I’ve decided to abandon easy more and start again on normal mode, which should be more challenging and feel more like a ‘proper’ game rather than a ridiculously extended tutorial. It’s not right having things explained to you on level 12.

In other news, a mystery delivery of Riviera arrived unannounced. The company who sent it out have been informed, but if they don’t get back to me sharpish, I’m ‘avin’ it 🙂

Fire Emblem – The Sacred Stones (GBA)

Finally cleared chapter 6, but it cost me my thief and my journeyman. I think the problem is that I’m playing in too linear a fashion and should really be revisiting cleared levels to train up the weaker characters. Either that or my strategy is just crap 🙂 Possibly the latter. Difficult to believe I’m playing on easy mode, though – it’ll be interesting to see what happens when I replay it on normal……

Fire Emblem – The Sacred Stones (GBA)

Gah – Chapter 6 handed my arse to me on a plate. The map has really thick fog so, other than a thief with good senses and a cleric with a torch, all the characters have very limited vision. I ended up walking into the mother of all ambushes and being chopped to tiny little bits. Methinks I shall start this one again, after buying lots and lots of torches 🙂

On a cheerier note, though, this is definately one for the headphones. I was playing it in the car at lunchtime (as you do) and connected the Micro to the car hifi and the sound is ACE. Fantastic music, awesome sound effects (like thunderous clip-cloppiness from the horses hooves during battle sequences), clashing of swords – it’s just great.

Gaaaah. Chapter 5 complete, but at a bit of a cost. I lost a junior mage and a pegasus knight in the process and I don’t have anyone who can directly replace either of them. I wonder how that’s going to affect the story? So, Chapter 5 was tough – in the end, it was a judgement call whether to replay or move on, but I think I got as good a result as can be expected. And just when I though the odds were against me, along comes Chapter 5x. Oh dear. This could be tricky.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA)

Damn you, chapter five! I keep getting all my low level characters killed :-/ There are far too many enemies for a frontal assault. Going to have to use my noodle, I think. The trouble is, the guy I need to talk to to turn to my side is working with the enemy and his a few fairly nifty instant kill moves. Added to that, the person with the best chance of turning him is also the weakest character. Gaaaaah.
