Star Wars – Republic Commando (Xbox)
Well, I wasn’t sure if I’d like this but I had a suspicion I would, what with being a little on the nerdy side with regard to Star Wars. Not mainstream nerdy, I have to say – I don’t think Episodes I and II are worse than the original trilogy – I fully believe they’re all crap, just crap with LIGHTSABRES. Anyway, I digress. When this launch, I was filled with thoughts of ohhhhh, but managed to resist the, frankly, outrageous 40 quid price tag. STRONG.
Well, today I was in Game and I noticed that the Deal Of The Day (tm, no doubt) was Republic Commando for 20 quid. WEAK.
So, here I am. Matthew started bouncing about like a loony when he spotted it – he’s a huge Battlefronts fan. He got the first go and I managed to co-exist in the same room as him for 90 minutes without once glancing at the screen. So, off he went to bed and I got my mitts on the controller. TRIUMPHANT.
First impressions. The ohhhhhh thoughts were confirmed. Lovely lovely graphics and just fab 5.1 surround. Next thoughts – ohhhhhhhhhh a squad based shooter where the controls don’t get in the way of the action! And it’s Star Wars! So, there I am – reunited with my squaddie mates, stampeding through the factories of Geonosis, and completing the cerebral task of, well, blowing the hell out of anything that movies. RAMPAGE.
The multiplayer modes look fun, if a little simplistic. Must pop onto uk.games.video.xbox at some point and see if any of my fellow reprobates are up for some shooty cloney fun.
