Asymptotically approaching completion
How’s that for the name of a prog-rock band? Anyway, that’s the status with the house. All the downstairs skirtings are cut to size (they can’t fit em yet cos the flooring has to go down first) and all the joinery and making-good is done. All that really needs doing is the fitted kitchen, the flooring, and the decoration. Won’t be long now. There is the small matter of a damp patch on the Conservatory wall, but I suspect the cause has been fixed and the plaster will dry out once the heating is on.
Argh! Where’s the conservatory? Nicked by Chavs?
Nope – there’s some of it over there.
Yikes! They’ve put up a new one!
And speaking of heating, the plumber was having a problem getting the boiler fired up, so a new one may be required. There wasn’t any fire damage in the garage (where the boiler lives) but there was a metric buttload of smoke pouring through there. It’s possible that the boiler is just completely bunged up with yuck, but we’ll see.
Started working on a resume yesterday. It’s pretty hard going cos I have a lot of skills to describe but don’t really want the CV to be longer than a page. I have a friend at Citibank who is going to give me a hand. It’s been a long time since I filled in a CV. Heard yesterday that my friend Dave is leaving Dowcarter for pastures new. It looks like the company is being left in really good shape. It really was a bit on the big side given the current market – they should be well positioned for the future. A few people have mailed saying it’s odd that I’m still interested in a company I know longer work for, but DC is kinda like a baby – I put a lot of care and attention into it in the early years and I want to see it continue to go from strength to strength. Besides, there are a lot of really good people with their livelihoods tied up in the company, so I’m happy to do anything I can to help.
